Pastor’s Perspective – December 4

Last Saturday, November 26th we were honoured to host Breakfast with the Bishop. About 100 people gathered in our Parish Hall to share in stories from the First Peoples of Alberta. Regina Crowchild offered wonderful introductions and humorous stories as the MC. What impressed me were how tales of loss and suffering were infused with hope, as the speakers expressed their trust in Jesus amid such sorrow. There was music, conversation, and words of insight from Bishop McGrattan as he outlined the last eighteen months of planning culminating in the pilgrimage with Pope Francis in July. I am so appreciative to our committee that worked with Denis Grady and Franciscan and Friends;  our CWL, Knights and God Squad, and other volunteers, for all you did to make the morning a grace-filled blessing. Thank you!

I want to invite you to attend a beautiful Advent Service at St Anthony’s Parish,  5340 4 St SW, at 7:30 PM on December 11th. The St. John’s Choir Schola will be leading the congregation in Nine Lessons and Carols.  This beautiful liturgy has Anglican origins. It was first offered at King’s College Cambridge in 1917. I will be participating and would love to share in this evening with you.

Advent is a time when the faithful are invited to make their confession before Christmas. On December 21st at 7:30 PM we will be having a penitential liturgy and time for confession. Please make time come to Jesus in this beautiful sacrament of healing.

Have a blessed 2nd Week of Advent.

With trust in Jesus as we are infused with the virtues of faith, hope, and love.

Fr. Jonathan
