Altar Servers
What is it?
The Altar Server Ministry offers youth and adults the opportunity to serve during the most sacred moments of Catholic worship. Servers assist the priest and deacons at the altar, helping to create a prayerful, reverent, and orderly celebration of the Mass and other liturgies.
Altar serving is deeply rooted in Church tradition, tracing its origins to the Old Testament temple servers and the early Church role of the acolyte. It is a visible, meaningful ministry of presence and support – directed first to God, then to the clergy, and finally to the gathered community.
Being an altar server is more than completing tasks – it’s about developing reverence, humility, and attentiveness. Servers are not performers but part of a team, offering their service with care and devotion. For young people, altar serving is also a family ministry, with parents playing a key role in supporting their child’s commitment.
How to Volunteer
Children who have received their First Communion are eligible to serve. Adults may also participate as mass mentors or assist with special liturgies. Training sessions are offered regularly, and new servers are always welcome. Parents are encouraged to support their children by helping them arrive on time and fostering a spirit of reverence for the Mass.

What They Need from Volunteers
- New Servers: Youth (ages 8+) who have received First Communion and are ready to serve with reverence.
- Mass Mentors: Adults willing to help guide young servers during Mass (with proper safeguards and public supervision).
- Commitment and Flexibility: Servers are scheduled regularly and especially needed for 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Sunday Masses.
- Support During Special Liturgies: Holy Week and other high feast days are a wonderful opportunity to serve.
Altar serving is a beautiful and formative way to grow in love for the Mass and offer meaningful service to the parish. Training, support, and community activities help servers grow in both faith and responsibility. If you or your child feel called to serve, we would be delighted to welcome you to the team.
