Pastoral Care

What is it?

The Pastoral Care Ministry brings the presence of Christ to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to illness, age, or mobility challenges. Volunteers offer prayer, companionship, and the Eucharist through home visits, residence visits, and hospital ministry.

  • Home Visits: Volunteers bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are homebound, offering spiritual support and connection to the Church.

  • Senior Residence Visits: Teams provide Community Communion Services at five local seniors’ residences, with Mass celebrated once a month.

  • Hospital Visits: Trained Religious Community Visitors provide pastoral support to patients in hospital, in collaboration with Alberta Health Services.

How to Volunteer

Volunteers are welcomed and needed in all areas of pastoral care. Time commitment is flexible and based on your availability and the needs of those you visit. If you’re compassionate, a good listener, and feel called to serve those who are isolated or in need, this ministry offers a meaningful way to make a difference.

What They Need from Volunteers

  • Home Visitors: Bring the Eucharist and companionship to parishioners at home.

  • Residence Ministers: Assist in Communion Services and attend monthly Masses at seniors’ residences.

  • Hospital Visitors: Special training is required through Alberta Health Services for those wishing to serve in hospitals.

  • Consistent Presence: Volunteers who can offer their time regularly, even once or twice a month, make a significant impact.

This ministry is a powerful way to share God’s love and extend the parish community to those who cannot be with us in person. New volunteers are always welcome.
