Fr. Fabio de Souza

Fr. Fabio de Souza, 49, was ordained in 2007 in his home archdiocese in Brazil, he has been serving in the Diocese of Calgary since 2016. Fr. Fabio brings his experience in pastoral ministry and theological education, which includes a Ph.D. in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, a Master’s in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, and a Master’s in Church Administration and Management from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Fr. Fabio has made contributions to the fields of the history of the Church and ecclesiology through his publications, including his most recent research, From Pioneers to Parishioners: Tracing the Pastoral History of the Diocese of Calgary from 1912-1994.

Before coming to Calgary, Fr. Fabio served as Vice Rector and Administrative Director of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in the Archdiocese of Montes Claros, Brazil, where he also taught Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Psychology. Additionally, he was a member of the Presbyteral Council in the Archdiocese of Montes Claros and served as the Executive Director of Catholic Magazine, a TV program featuring news from his home archdiocese.

Since 2016, Fr. Fabio has served as the pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Calgary. In his pastoral roles within the Diocese of Calgary, he has been a member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council, the Pastoral Renewal Leadership Team, and the Pastoral Discernment Advisory Committee. Fr. de Souza is also the National Spiritual Director for the Marian Devotional Movement, a lay association dedicated to promoting devotion to Our Lady of the Cape in Canada. In May 2024, he had the honor of being one of three priests selected by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to represent Canada at the Parish Priests for the Synod international meeting in Rome. Appointed by Bishop McGrattan as our new pastor, Fr. Fabio de Souza now brings his experience and dedication to our parish community.
