Fr. Fabio de Souza, 49, was ordained to the priesthood in 2007 in his home archdiocese in Brazil and has been serving in the Diocese of Calgary since 2016. His priestly ministry has been shaped by years of pastoral service in parish life and by his involvement in priestly formation, including service in seminary leadership and teaching.
Before coming to Canada, Fr. Fabio served in his home archdiocese as Vice Rector and Administrative Director of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary, where he also taught Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Psychology. He participated in diocesan life through service on the Presbyteral Council and was involved in Catholic media as the Executive Director of a diocesan television program.
Fr. Fabio’s academic formation includes graduate studies in theology in Brazil, where he completed a Master’s degree and a PhD in Theology. He also holds a Master’s degree in Church Administration and Management from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
Since his arrival in Calgary, Fr. Fabio has served as pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Within the Diocese of Calgary, he has been asked to contribute to various consultative and pastoral bodies, particularly in areas connected to pastoral renewal and discernment. He also serves as the National Spiritual Director for the Marian Devotional Movement, which fosters devotion to Our Lady of the Cape in Canada.
In May 2024, Fr. Fabio took part in the international meeting of Parish Priests for the Synod in Rome, at the invitation of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Appointed by Bishop McGrattan as pastor of our parish in 2024, he comes walking together with the community, serving the mission entrusted to us in a spirit of communion.
